I also consult for the urgent help team which bridge community and in-patient services and the West Sussex family eating disorder services. I am an approved clinician and also have responsibility for the new 136 suite for under 18's on the hospital site. Patient's admitted have a range of psychiatric illnesses including psychosis, mood disorders, eating disorders, emotional intensity disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders. Treatments offered include psychoeducation, psychopharmacology, CBT, family therapy and supported eating. My role has focused on the eating disorder patients but recently has been expanded to cover the whole ward due to staff shortages. I offer regular supervision to the staff grade doctors and MDT and have arranged and delivered teaching and training sessions for physical health in eating disorders, refeeding syndrome and junior MARSIPAN. I am the responsible clinician for the ward, which involves extensive mental health act work. I am on the Sussex Partnership Funding panel and the Local Leadership Team. In this role I have been active in addressing the recent CQC recommendations and looked to improve the services we offer at Chalkhill. I also attend the monthly trust wide consultant meeting and support the transition for out of area beds team. Show less

In these teams I worked closely with the interface between physical and mental health and treated patients in a large London teaching hospital. It particularly highlighted the need for communication between teams and the importance of psychiatry in general hospitals. During this time I honed my neurology knowledge and examination skills. ST2 - Assertive Outreach (Dr Li) & Child and Adolescent mental health service (Dr Grant) Whilst working in the assertive outreach team in Richmond, I was able to enhance my skills in engaging patients who have found routine mental health services to not meet their needs. This method of working has influenced my practice in all of psychiatry realising the importance of meeting patients in other settings and recognising the need to be flexible to help engagement. My child and adolescent placement at Kingston was an excellent introduction to CAMHS and I was able to cultivate the psychiatric skills I had developed earlier to a young population. Here I also had a supervised CBT case alongside my psychodynamic long case (adult patient). ST1 - General Adult Psychiatry (Dr M Potter) & Old Age Psychiatry (Dr M Baheerathan) In these teams I worked with patients with long standing mental health problems as well as emerging illness. I worked in both in and out patient settings delivering a wide range of treatments including medication and ECT. During my ST1-3 years I was elected to represent my peers at trust level at the medical education group, working rota group and medical staffing committee. I also developed a psychotherapy training DVD for junior doctors undertaking psychodynamic psychotherapy cases. My out-of-hours responsibilities included management of medical emergencies, psychiatric assessment in A&E, 136 suite and for acute admissions. Show less
