Specialist Educator - Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education
-
Jan 2020 - Feb 2023
As a proud Aboriginal woman and Leading Educator, I value my professional role and strive to connect with our local and extended Aboriginal communities. I also appreciate it’s about the lives behind the data. I always adopt a common practice founded on building rich, respectful and trustworthy relationships with all Aboriginal children/families I work with, holding them in unconditional positive regard and journeying alongside them throughout all stages of their schooling to be lifelong learners. Whether transitioning into a new care placement, starting kindergarten, starting high school or a class from another educational setting, I implement appropriate adaptations to support students to recognise their potential and develop a safe space where all students feel valued and have a voice. My role and responsibility is to Provide and support opportunities for continual improvement, learning, and growth for our Aboriginal children, young people, families, people with a disability and their communities, recognising the principles of self-determination along with showcasing that contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are strong, resilient, rich and diverse. ● Implemented teaching and learning programs of K-6 Aboriginal Culture and Knowledge ● Project Managed onsite Aboriginal Cultural Learning Centres Worked closely with Aboriginal elders and community members to access local resources and historical knowledge of our local community ● Advocated on behalf of Aboriginal youth at school and with parents, teachers and carers including building good rapport and maintaining open communication ● Recorded and maintained appropriate high quality files and case notes in line with organisational policies and procedures to meet legislative and funding requirements ● Worked in partnership with key stakeholders ● Built and maintained links with participants’ community networks Show less
