Conducted experiments in the Eastern Sierra mountains to determine how climate change is impacting the mito-nuclear evolution and population density of chrysomela aeneicollis, a species of beetles found in the Eastern Sierras. The internship involved conducting field data collection, wet lab experimentation using various techniques such as heat control, breeding beetles from different drainages, fitness tests and statistical analysis from previous data collections. I was in charge of assembling, trouble shooting and conducting experiments with the MAVEn-FT, which is a complex machine that precisely measures the metabolic rate of the beetles. I also assisted with analyzing the data gathered from the MAVEn-FT to determine the metabolism of beetles under different environmental conditions and breeding drainages. This internship is still continuing at Santa Clara University where the team ans I are extracting DNA from the beetles and analyzing how the bettle's genes are changing over time to adapt to climate change.
