Recycling Operative
-
Apr 2016 - Present
I currently work at Balcan Engineering in between my studies at University over the Christmas, Easter and Summer periods. This role involves working under physically demanding conditions over long working hours as part of a team in order to perform set tasks that help effectively operate a series of heavy machinery that is used to crush and recycle lamps. Here I have learned the importance of effective communication to maintain the efficiency of a team to enable deadlines to be met while maintaining a high level of productivity and health and safety adherence.

As well as working as a Recycling Operative, I have been involved in the manufacturing of the products the company sells. The main product I help manufacture is a NATO recognised water rescue device that is used by navies, police forces and rescue services. This involves working to detail due to the high level of responsibility the product bears. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, I trained and worked as a delivery driver for Tesco in order to help the local community and expand my skill set. This role taught me the value of excellent customer service in business operations and how digital systems can be operated effectively in a business setting. Alongside my studies I have worked as a part-time promotion and marketing assistant for music and club events in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. This role involved promoting these events and engaging with the public through social media and face to face interactions in order to attract as many customers as possible, whilst operating on a commission based wage. Through this job I have been able to practice sales and public relation skills, as well as broadening my understanding of effective marketing and engagement skills; both in person and through social media
