Civil & Structural Engineer II, Afipsky Oil Refinery Expansion Project (Detail Engineering)
-
Jan 2017 - Aug 2017
The project follows on the successful completion and delivery of FEED and Early Engineering by CB&I. The project was awarded through project developer China National Chemical Engineering (CNCE) Co. to provide detail engineering, procurement and construction management services for Afipsky Oil Refinery Expansion Project. The contract was valued at more than $ 460 million. Detail engineering was executed by The Hague, Gurgaon and Brno offices. Detailed load calculations and design for all structures & foundations was done using Russian Snip, SP & GOST Standards. My contribution for the project included- Establishing Project Design Philosophy for Structures for India, Brno and The Hague.- Participating in 3D Engineering Model Reviews and collaborating with diverse stake holders to identify and mitigate risks including clashes and rework. - Coordinating and assisting other departments including Piping, Mechanical and Instrumentation to finalize layout of technological structures and eventually Plot Plan.- Assisting in streamlining consistency in project by preparing sample calculations, thereby increasing productivity of project team.- Executing drawing checking to ensure drawing are as per engineering input and consistent with project drawing template.- Assisting in arranging events to foster teamwork. Civil & Structural Engineer II, LACC Ethane Cracker Project (Detail Engineering)
-
Dec 2015 - Jan 2017
LACC is a JV between Axiall Corporation and Lotte Chemical Corporation. CB&I was awarded a contract valued in excess of $ 1.3 billion to provide EPC services for the LACC Ethane Cracker Project in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The capacity of the plant will be approximately 1 million metric tons of ethylene annually. The technology for the plant was provided by CB&I Lummus and engineering was supported by Houston & Gurgaon offices. The project was executed in a Vertical Split Workshare. Detailed load calculations and design for all structures & foundations was done using American Standards including ASCE 7, ACI 318 and AISC 360.Hybrid composite pipe racks (9.0m below precast reinforced concrete and above I section steel) were used to satisfy the stringent fire requirements of the project. Meeting project schedule was critical for the project and the team worked in a stringent schedule. At the start of the project construction schedule was shortened by 6 months by deploying more resources at site including 5 piling rigs, 3 more than initial plan of 2 rigs. This resulted in enormous pressure on engineering to support & provide sufficient work-front to construction to keep them occupied. My contribution to the project included:- Performing detailed design calculation for sub & super-structure of pipe racks, pump shelters.- Spearheading design calculation checking of foundation for equipment.- Ensuring calculated QTO to be within baseline quantities.- Collaborating with other stakeholders to incorporate use of standard drawings for MPS.- Handling RFIs from construction and maintained change orders. Civil & Structural Engineer I, Afipsky Oil Refinery Expansion Project (FEED & Early Engineering)
-
Aug 2014 - Nov 2015
CB&I was awarded a contract by NefteGazIndustriya LLC through project developer Maveg to provide technology licenses and front end engineering design services for Afipsky Oil Refinery Expansion. Project comprised of various units including hydrocracker unit, hydrogen unit and sulfur units. The contract was valued at more than $ 90 million. The technology was provided by Chevron Lummus Global, a JV between CB&I and Chevron and engineering was executed by The Hague, Gurgaon and Brno offices. All the structures & foundations were designed using Russian Snip, SP & GOST Standards. My contribution for the project included- Developing calculation template using Microsoft Excel to calculate various loads including wind, seismic & thermal for horizontal vessel & heat exchanger foundations.- Preparing design calculation for sub & super-structure of pipe racks & technological structures.- Collaborating other departments including Piping & Electrical to finalize Plot Plan.- Accommodating design changes to help & support other stake holders. Civil & Structural Engineer I, SXL Marcus Hook NGL Facility (Detail Engineering)
-
Aug 2013 - Aug 2014
The project scope included detailed engineering & design, procurement, construction & commissioning for Ethane facility. The ethane facility included a steel tank with 300,000 BBL facility. Detailed load calculations and design for all structures & foundations was done using American Standards including ASCE 7, ACI 318 and AISC 360.Engineering for the project was supported by Plainfield and Gurgaon office. The project was executed with Horizontal Split Workshare due to which communication between two offices was vital for the success of the project. My contribution for the project included:- Establishing guidelines for foundation design of pipe racks in a Vertical Split Workshare.- Facilitating construction through expedited RFI resolutions & change orders.- Developing load calculation template for horizontal vessels and heat exchanger to enhance consistency in the project.- Performing detail design of super-structure of a pipe rack using RISA 3D. Graduate Engineer Trainee, NKNK Grassroots Olefins Complex (FEED)
-
Jan 2013 - Jul 2013
CB&I was awarded a contract by NKNK to provide Front End Engineering Design (FEED) services for an Ethylene Plant in Russia. The value of the contract was more than $ 40 Million. The project scope included detailed estimation (± 10% of actual quantities) and MTO calculation. Technology was provided by CB&I Lummus and engineering was supported by The Hague and Gurgaon offices. Gurgaon office scope of work included the cold section of the Ethylene Plant. The project was executed using Vertical Split Workshare with The Hague being Lead Office. Some of the key design challenges included columns up to 110m high having 9,000 tons weight during hydrotesting, 14.0m high table top foundation supporting an approximately 350 tons reciprocating compressor, 16.0 m wide pipe rack supporting 120" diameter process pipe, approximately 22.0m high cold box with 42 nozzles and cold weather conditions. My contribution to the project included- Assisting in streamlining designing process by developing calculation templates.- Estimating QTO of complex structures including cold box, technological structures, table top.- Coordinating with Piping Department for finalizing layout of a combined structure & pipe rack and eventually designing structure to calculate QTO.- Handled foundation design of vessels including horizontal & vertical and heat exchangers.- Collaborated with others to incorporate change in pile capacities towards the end stage of the project. Graduate Engineer Trainee
-
Aug 2012 - Dec 2012
CB&I had recently started executing projects with Multi Office Project Execution (MOPEX) as a business strategy. It was done with aim to cut engineering cost and be more competitive in the market. India with its low engineering cost and high quality engineers was an obvious choice for opening new engineering office. After graduating from college, I joined CB&I, India as a Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET). After successfully completing two weeks orientation period, I was formally inducted into Civil & Structural Department. As a GET my roles included:- Preparing and organizing technical presentation on topics including Anchor Bolt Design using ACI 318, Wind Load Calculation and Foundation Design of Equipment.- Aiding senior engineers with documentation of calculations for ongoing projects.- Developing calculation load templates for use in future projects.- Analyzing Process Industry Practices (PIP), various codes & standards including ACI 318, ASCE 7, AISC 360, Wind Load on Petrochemical & Other Facilities.
