Product development. Business development. Market research. We are selling a new air lime breakthrough. It is our own favorite material. It makes us competitive as contractors and now it's a product on the market. Product development. Business development. Market research. We are selling a new air lime breakthrough. I ran around a great deal as a very busy fool. Mostly I spent a lot of time fire fighting. It was my intention to prove that Traditional lime works, by its use on a large scale. We did that extremely successfully. Unexpectedly, we also proved that not all lime works..... the word is empiric. I've learnt a great deal from the experience. Somehow the industry should too. QED. Working in most trades on mostly private Historic Houses, I spent a great deal of time experimenting with limes and aggregates until I had satisfied myself that there is another way. An alternative that is simple, beautiful, traditional and poetic. Sometimes I have been rendered speechless by the next revelation (but not often!!). I was extremely fortunate to have been able to work on some truly lovely and varied buildings. I started as yard dogsbody/lime mortar mixer/supplies manager. I then worked my way through most historic building trades by slogging away for years and finished my time there, having been site manager for the previous four years. I loved it. The work we did was awesome. For most of that time we were a band of happy wanderers, going about doing good works. What a school Ian created! What a privilege it was to work on some of those buildings. Somewhere towards the end of my time, the ethos got lost. Modern Project management killed it. Sad really but all good things come to an end sooner or later.
