Event 1: Adaptive Soccer Clinic - Helped children with physical and cognitive disabilities complete soccer drills and play in actual games. I also had the opportunity to facilitate a few drills myself and help the kids realize that they are able to play soccer and have fun even though they have a physical or cognitive disability. Event 2: Flying Pig Marathon Hand cycling training -Helped adjust handcycling bikes so that they fit the athletes. This included physical adjustment to the seat, hand bars, brakes, and gears, as well as, coming up with external hand and seat adjustments so that the athletes are able to safely and comfortably hand cycle. I helped with the weekly training sessions that were held where I would perform transfers, bike adjustments, tape the athletes hands, facilitate training, and run with the athletes as needed. Clinical Rotation #2: 9 weeks - Setting: Outpatient Neuro/Ortho - In-service project #1: Presented to the entire Rehab department about local resources and organizations in the Cincinnati and NKY area that provide DME, financial assistance, recreation/sport/fitness, and Pro Bono services for patients with disabilities -In-service project #2: Presented research to the OP staff on the benefits and effects of High intensity gait training for patients with stroke. At this site, I got to treat patient's with a variety of neurological diagnoses including Parkinson's, SCI, MS, and stroke. We saw patient's one-on-one which was really beneficial to my learning and really allowed me to build upon and enhance my skills. I felt very comfortable and confident in treating patient's whether they had a neurological or orthopedic diagnosis/condition, and feel that I experienced a LOT of professional growth during this rotation. I also had the opportunity to work with other members of the healthcare team including SLP's and an OT, which was a great experience and allowed me to work on my interprofessional communication and collaboration. Gahanna YMCA (8/19 - 5/21), Martha Morehouse (3/20 - 5/21), Jameson Crane Sports Medicine (8/19 - 2/20), OSU Wexner Medical Center (University Hospitals and James Cancer Center) (10/20 - 3/21) I started off working at the Jameson Crane Sports Medicine Institute and Gahanna YMCA in August of 2019. I completed the normal duties of a PT aide like assisting therapists with treatment, cleaning tables and equipment, and keeping the clinic organized. Within the first month of working they gave me the responsibility of ordering supplies for the clinic, keeping inventory, quality checking patient information, and managing the front desk on Saturday Morning's. Once COVID hit, I volunteered to run screening stations at Martha Morehouse as my time at the other clinics were minimized. After 2 months of running the screening station I began working as the head rehab aide at Martha Morehouse and continued to work at the Gahanna clinic. At this time, I began working with managers from both clinics to complete clinic projects and tasks. I also became part of a vestibular research project with a clinician that looked at whether patients diagnosed with vestibular issues in the hospital followed up with their outpatient visits. During December of 2020 there was a need for rehab aides at the University Hospitals and James Cancer Center. I then volunteered to pick up 2-3 extra shifts to help with the demand of the hospital. I did this for about 3 months until the need in the outpatient clinics required more of my time. Show less
