During the months placement, I was able to work in a wide range of departments within the company and had the opportunity to see the processes behind producing a car from Project Start to Launch. Examples of experience gained: Spent a week in at the Halewood Factory, Liverpool. Working on the final prototype stage of the Land Rover Sport just before launch. Mainly focussed on project planning, this allowing me to see an overview of all Engineering departments. Also worked a lot with the AIMS systems. APC (Advanced Product Creation) - Attended meetings on future products, and learnt about the process of Bench Marking. SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) - Visited the Heritage department and spoke to the Mechanics about their current projects, including the Light weight E-types. Packaging department - Where I used a software package called 3D Live to map the 'Carry Over' parts used in different models on the platform. Design Studio (Gaydon) - Using Photoshop to produce initial designs for wheels and then transforming these into 3D CAD models. Crash Testing (MIRA) - Spending the day with a Test Engineer, setting up for and then performing a crash test on a F-type. Whilst there I saw how the test dummies were set up. Factory Visit to Solihull - Where I saw the production line for the Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery, including the robotics cells.
