  The Green Army is a government funded traineeship which enables young people to gain practical conservation skills and introduces participants to the complexities of land management. I participated in the 'Yarra Valley Habitat Restoration' project, working alongside Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water, visiting various sites along the Yarra River. Throughout this experience I gained skills such as native and introduced flora identification, woody weed removal, safe chemical handling, operation of basic tools and machinery, fence construction and fauna surveying.
