As fellow managers, working in a team with Harriet was not only a great pleasure but also very motivating. Harriet took her responsibility to her staff, her shop operations, and her environment seriously and undertook decisions with considered balance between them. Environmental integrity is her mantra and her earnest dedication rubs off on those around her. Smart and perceptive, I would recommend Harriet to any position that requires focus and excellent people skills.

It has been a honour working with Harriet Walker for the past three years in our post-secondary program at Sir Sandford Fleming College. Harriet and I have worked together directly on environmental monitoring projects and reports which have demanded a large amount of time and dedication. Harriet is a great worker in a team environment and expresses communication, collaboration and phenomenal social abilities. Harriet is always eager to help her peers and colleagues with group-related duties and is sure to be a tremendous asset to any work environment in which she is present.

In this role I provided part-time support as a Qualified Environmental Professional on an intensive construction site, completing water quality monitoring and submitting daily reporting and site inspections to the client. During the spring/summer field season, I provided field support to numerous hydrogeological and water quality projects including in-situ water quality monitoring, surface water and groundwater sample collection, slug tests, pump tests, and infiltration testing. I also supported geotechnical projects through sample collection obtained through split spoon sampling and provided stratigraphic descriptions in the field, as well as created borehole logs using gInt software. In addition to fieldwork, I completed data analysis and drafted a variety of reports supporting numerous hydrogeological, geotechnical, waters supply, and environmental impact studies. Show less

    • Waste Management Technician
      • Apr 2018 - Sep 2020

In my last season (Summer/Fall) in this role I operated a County run Household Hazardous Waste program with on-site duties that included the classification and lab packing of waste and maintaining an inventory to meet the site ECA and TDG shipping requirements. In this position, health and safety was a key concern and I ensured that my operations met all health and safety requirements. Other responsibilities involved the transport of non-hazardous waste and shoreline waste collection in hot spot fishing areas identified by council as areas of concern. I also performed preliminary research and primary data collection for various County projects. In this position I was required to work as a remote member of a team, as well as follow Covid-19 protocols while working directly with staff and the public. Previous season contracts included a broader scope of work and projects. Show less

    • Assistant Manager
      • Dec 2018 - Jun 2020

In this position I wore several hats, that of an Assistant Market Manager, and that of a Site Manager. Assistant duties included data collection in the form of weekly surveys, maintaining site operations, set up and tear down of facilities, responding to public inquiries and concerns, and the management of market merchandise. Site manager duties were bi weekly and included the collection of sensitive vendor sales data and overseeing daily operations. This required me to report directly to a Board of Directors as well as assist in the coordination of volunteers. In this role I collaborated on the development of Covid-19 protocols for market operations under the guidance of Public Health officials. The resulting protocols were adopted and distributed province wide by Farmer's Market's Ontario as a best management practices reference tool. Show less
