Ammara Ahmad
Haroon Khalid was a contributor to the News on Sunday where I was a staffer. He regularly wrote pieces on heritage sites, history and historical figures in Pakistan. He focused on not only the recorded history but also the oral histories surrounding these places and how they blended in with the ethos of Pakistani society. In a way, his writings serve as a narrative of Pakistan's (and the rest of South Asia's) past and present. His oeuvre is a reminder of the syncretic culture of the sub-continent. Khalid is a hands-on journalist and his pieces are always well-researched. He closely followed the deadlines and put in effort to make his writings riveting. Sometimes he would take a temple or a market that is well-known but dig out some hidden gems of legends or folktales associated with them - thus making the piece even more compelling. Over the years, I have seen his work become more profound. He has carved out a name for himself as a writer and explorer. I wish him many more trips to the long-forgotten historical sites in not just Pakistan but many different civilizations in the world.
Naveed Masood
One of the most brilliant, inquisitive minds I encountered at LUMS. I found Haroon's work ethic extremely inspiring, he is also one of the most brilliant writers of our generation.
