Esmerk (merged now with M-Brain) was the first company in Finland providing tailor-made alert business information services based on news published by the Finnish national and local newspapers. The customers – companies in all fields of business, lobby organizations, state and local authorities – used the service for monitoring their business environment. In 80's and 90's this kind of service was visionary and pioneer! My main responsibilities included * Monitoring news, i.e. reading newspapers, * Choosing relevant items, * Writing abstracts in Finnish (also from Finland's Swedish language newspapers), * Analyzing content and * Indexing. I was also responsible for * Information profile formulating and updating for my customers (companies in Finnish food industry, its lobby organizations, authorities and The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) in Finland) and * Quality supervision of their service. I made sure that the needs of the Finnish customers were taken into account in Esmerk's all offices worldwide. I did in-house training for colleagues and contributed to building and maintaining a public news database. I succeeded in keeping my customers satisfied and making them buy more information profiles even though Finland’s economy went through a bad recession during years 1990–96. I learned to write intensively, clearly and grammatically correct. I adopted an insight into how to put myself in customer's place, picture her/his operational environment and formulate a relevant information profile. I got to know thoroughly Finland’s * National and local press, * Economic geography, * Structure of economy and * Key companies and players in all fields of business. I completed Esmerk’s extensive in-house training in client liaison in Newbury, Great Britain. Show less
