  While on leave from University over the Christmas period, I arranged to undertake a work placement at the local newspaper to gain experience. During this week I gathered news about breaking stories, I interviewed local residents, taking opinions and quotations on events for articles. I also wrote a listicle about growing up in Stoke-on-Trent, which was published on the Stoke-on-Trent Live website.   During the Summer Break from University, I arranged to undertake a work placement at Churchill China, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ceramic tableware. While there, I worked with several different departments including Marketing, Design and PR. Whilst working with the Marketing team, I was involved in meetings about UK and export marketing and was able to see the way the company operates in the global market. I worked directly with several clients who had requested samples of products and processed these requests accordingly. I was also set a brief by the Marketing department and, whilst working with Design, completed and presented this brief at the end of the week. I also spent another week working with the Design team. I created a mood-board, requested by a client, for suitable tableware for afternoon tea. I also updated the design database utilising Photoshop to modernise the database and then integrate it to the current filing system.



Homes and Antiques Magazine

  Upon completion of my first year at university, I undertook a placement at a magazine to gain industry experience. Whilst at Homes & Antiques, I helped work on the 300th issue of the magazine, and was tasked with identifying interesting and unique finds for a special 300th issue cover photoshoot. I also helped with research for the magazine’s ‘Notes on an Icon’ section, as well as working across different social media platforms for the magazine.
