Congratulations on your participation as a successful and professional student mentee in the 2020 Southern Cross University Bright Futures Student-Alumni Mentor Program.

Nan Bahr

Hannah has made an outstanding contribution to the student experience at Southern Cross University. Her efforts as a student leader and group facilitator for the University-wide student voice project has been spectacular. She is mature, intelligent and articulate with a strong work ethic and I am happy to recommend her for any venture she elects into the future.

Working as part of a team, I have assisted in recruiting new students, toured and communicated effectively with diverse groups, and have attained a number of transferable skills within this role. I am an active staff member of the University in other departments as required including marketing, administration and frequent public speaking at events. Events that I have worked at include Gold Coast Careers Expo, Gold Coast Marathon, University Open Days and Orientations to name a few.

    • Student Facilitator
      • Jul 2019 - Jul 2019

In this short-term position, myself and a team of other students were employed by the university to facilitate focus groups and workshops with other fellow students. The purpose of the research project was data collection in relation to students’ personal feedback. Once the project was completed, myself and another fellow facilitator were requested to present at an all-staff briefing with the university executive.

In this role I have organised social, educational and professional events for my university’s School of Law and Justice. I have been able to work within a team and develop professional and personal relationships within the legal industry. Part of the position was also to hear the concerns of students, and to problem solve with the executive to assist in an appropriate outcome for the parties involved. I gained this job while completing my student placement as required by my Cert IV in Community Services Work. In this role, I worked with young adult clients aged 18-28, and formed strong professional relationships with the clients and their families, as well as my fellow support workers. I was able to implement various skills in behaviour management, communication skills, and adopt a client-centred approach. As a support worker in the community participation and life skills program, daily tasks included management and support of challenging behaviours, and problem solving in threatening situations.
