As a Specialisms Teacher, I was responsible for teaching ‘UN Global Project’ to a group of international students (aged 12-18) with a range of English abilities. The project was set up by the British Council in 2015 to integrate global issues into the creative English classroom. Students were educated on the Sustainable Development Goals through fun and interactive activities. As Activity & Excursion Manager, I lead the delivery of the summer school's social and excursion programme. In September 2019 I co-founded an Oxfam Society at Durham University in order to engage more students with Oxfam's campaigns and raise awareness of key humanitarian issues. Within the first month of establishment, we gained the support of just over 150 students. We have future plans to collaborate with other similar societies in the university such as people and planet in order to make our campaigns as high impact as possible! In establishing Durham OxSoc, I have been responsible for the promotion of the society on both social media and freshers fair in order to gain new members. Additionally, I am involved with the organisation of events such as socials, fundraising activities and campaigns. In June 2017, I did a weeks work experience at the Wyre Forest District Council. In this time, I shadowed the Principal Environmental Health Officer. I also spent some time with the Water Management Team, where I participated in the assessment of an area of housing prone to flooding. In this assessment, I was taught how to use a total station, trundle wheel and GPS and actively took part in data collection. I then witnessed the process of model simulation and mapping of flood risk back in the office. Show less
