Children's TherAplay utilizes horses to provide physical and occupational therapy to pediatric patients. In addition to all horse care duties, additional responsibilities include handling of "equine staff members"​ during physical and occupational therapy sessions. Duties include: **Choosing, regulating, and maintaining the ideal gait taking into account the needs of the patient**Constantly assessing the environment for potential risks in order to minimize the possibility of horses spooking or becoming dangerous**Keeping a level head during "spooks", taking control of situation by indicating when to remove child from horse and quickly and safely directing horse away from humans and other horses. Regaining control of horse and making the decision whether to end the session or attempt to continue **Interacting with developmentally, physically, or mentally disabled pediatric patients during sessions in a positive, supportive mannerIncluded one year hiatus during Freshman year of college.
