In this position I lead Maldives-focused projects in collaboration with governmental agencies, research institutes and universities. These projects are the “influences of oceanography on manta rays”, “zooplankton and climate change” and “socioeconomics of manta tourism”. This includes managing relations, staff training, database management, as well as report, permit, proposal and publication writing. These projects involve issues such as climate change, MPA management, threatened species and megafauna tourism. I also act as an adviser for other team members and affiliate projects on feeding ecology and socioeconomics. Show less

In this role I managed field-operations at the remote resort islands project bases researching manta rays. This included managing field work operations, databases, education programs and partnership relationships. As partial requirement for the permits, annually I analysed Atoll-specific sighting and survey data prepared as a technical report. This position also involved training staff, volunteers, citizen scientists, resort employees and stakeholders, and supervising MSc students.

My PhD focusses on the environmental and oceanographic drivers of foraging ecology and behaviour of reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi). This project is in collaboration with The Manta Trust, Project Manta, Maldives Manta Conservation Programme, CSIRO and Plymouth University. My thesis incorporates fieldwork (Maldives and Great Barrier Reef), lab analysis (CSIRO facilities), manuscript writing, and oceanography, spatial and statistical analysis.
