Research Intern
-
Jun 2023 - Sep 2023
8-week internship developing skills in materials preparation, microscopy, data analysis, and presentation skills. I will be focusing my research on zirconium alloys, notably on deducing the best material preparation method for both electron and optical microscopy. The first half of my internship focuses on materials preparation, whilst the second is based on data processing and analysis, with emphasis on automated grain size analysis. 8-week internship developing skills in materials preparation, microscopy, data analysis, and presentation skills. Won a place at the CERN Particle School Selected alongside 12 other students from an essay competition completed by many applicants across the UK. I wrote my essay on the Higgs Boson. Due to coronavirus, the trip was cancelled. Instead, we met some of the scientists working at CERN remotely and listened to lectures on the theoretical and engineering aspects of the particle colliders. Jun 2020 - Jul 2020
Achieved my silver industrial cadets award. Selected from a pool of talented students to take part in a week of work experience in the physics and chemistry department of the University of Sheffield. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this experience was cancelled and we did an online science and engineering course instead. At the end of the course I presented research on fractals and dimensions to receive my silver industrial cadets award. Required good teamwork, research and presenting skills Show less
