  In association and funded by PG&E, we conducted research to determine tree health and failure in proximity to PG&E infrastructure and in an adjacent unbuilt site. We studied the vegetation using point line intercepts within a 50m X 50m plot. Collecting unknown plant samples to identify later, creating a portfolio of plant species. Along the center 50 meter transect, we collected tree data on 25-50 trees (depending on the plot); measuring the diameter at breast height, height, crown base height, bark thickness, a core sample, and observations regarding insects and root/bole/crown health. By keeping the methods of the sampling constant, we are able to compare the vegetation and tree health between the built (PG&E powerlines) and unbuilt plots. Show less
