Over the last three years I have built a rolling programme of study in Art, Design and Technology which encompasses a range of artists, styles, mediums and cultures. I am driven by the understanding that that artists are made, not born. I am an advocate of valuing process over product, that children must be allowed to explore and make mistakes in order to maximise their learning. Within an artistic context, children have a fantastic opportunity to problem solve, take risks and to learn that sometimes apparent failures lead to a successful outcome when we persevere.I have been working on initiatives to promote the Arts in school. I have qualified for and established the delivery of Arts Award at Trinity school. This is an Entry Level 3 Qualification, that takes children through a rigorous process of study, exploration and reflection; culminating in their own work and a presentation. Further to this, I have established Arts Award as a means for children in Prep to apply for Year 7 scholarships in Fine Arts. This was not previously possible. I hope that this will serve to retain and attract additional children to continue their education into our senior department. Show less

My teaching ethics have always revolved around teaching to the individual needs and strengths of children and educating the whole child, not purely the academic. I am devoted to enabling children to express themselves in a variety of ways and mediums; whether this be drawing, playing an instrument, problem solving or team sports. Ultimately, I must set the conditions for every child to succeed. In my capacity as a parent and a teacher, I fully understand that this is not a simple process. It requires hard work, professional and emotional agility and the ability to constantly respond to pre-conceptions and misunderstandings.I have been actively involved in the development of school Policy and Procedure. I recently worked on transforming our PSHE Policy into a workable document for Prep staff; adding weekly themes and links to resources and lesson ideas to support them. This has ensured that the Programme Of Study provided is cohesive across year groups and all topics are covered. I also contributed to changes to our policy on marking and formative assessment.I am our school’s assigned PGCE Mentor, which ensures that I am kept up-to-date on Teaching and Learning Standards and latest developments in education. As an exchange of knowledge and skills, it is a fabulous opportunity for the school to absorb new ideas and a fresh perspective. As their Mentor I am responsible for the academic and pastoral care of the students; holding weekly development meetings to review and discuss targets, providing a point of contact for them, their university tutor and their assigned class teachers to ensure that the needs of all are met. Planned and delivered a varied and engaging curriculum to children with a range of extreme and specific emotional and learning difficulties; including two children with severe ADHD. Organised and ran trips and co-curricular projects to enhance their learning; including participation in a nationwide Drama initiative in which children wrote, directed and acted in their own short production. A particular challenge was liaising with parents, who were almost exclusively military and either absent or struggling to engage with home-life. Show less

Working with children across Key Stage 1 and 2, with a vast range of educational and behavioral needs. Required to quickly establish positive, working relationships with new children in a range of contexts, whilst maintaining high expectations for learning. Necessary to be sensitive and responsive to the individual needs and practices of a variety of schools and class settings. I also worked on a voluntary basis to gain experience in KS3 and 4, teaching Art at a nearby Secondary school, as well as running an Art Club at our local Primary school. In addition, I ran peripatetic Art workshops for children from Reception up to ‘A’ level in local schools; employed to offer stand-alone days of input, with a specialism in portraiture. Ran several GCSE Art workshops. Show less

Responsible for delivery of high-quality copy to publishers such as Macmillan and Pearson, with high-pressure deadlines. Required to have an excellent working knowledge of the English language; including grammar, punctuation and spelling. Ensured that text met educational standards; including factors such as age-appropriacy, clarity, variety of activity types and compliance with curriculum requirements. Wrote and edited guidance for teachers of English in South America; including resources, guidance on differentiation and assessment resources. Worked with an international, geographically dispersed team. Grew a reputation for excellent quality rewrites and increasingly asked to rewrite text if authors failed to meet requirements, eventually employed directly as an author. Work published includes an anthology of short stories and contributions to a range of educational text books. Show less
