As the Community Development Director for the City of Big Lake and the Executive Director for the Big Lake Economic Development Authority, I am privileged with the opportunity to play a role in connecting and growing the Big Lake Community. Other than managing Building, Planning/Zoning, Code Enforcement, Recreation, and Communications, my position weighs heavily in Economic Development. Economic Development activities include but are not limited to: Building and maintaining relationships (County Staff, Big Lake Township, Big Lake School District, Big Lake Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MNDEED, Utility Companies, BNSF, Developers, Commercial Realtors, Residential Realtors, Banks, GreaterMSP, etc.), administering the Business Retention and Expansion (BR&E) Program, recruiting businesses/employers, marketing all industrial/commercial/residential opportunities, and maintaining extensive knowledge on all business financing tools (Federal, State, and Local).To support Big Lake's Economic Development activity, I coordinate Manufacturing Week's schedule of events, participate in relevant expo/conference activities, support the work of civic organizations by participating in their events, participate in the Federal Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), and support the Comprehensive Plan Update process. In addition, I sit on the Sherburne County Public Health Advisory Council, the Big Lake Work Based Learning Advisory Committee, as well as the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board. I administered 100% of the HOME Investment Partnership's Program for Anoka County as well as part of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding Anoka County receives directly from HUD. Through CDBG, I administered the Anoka County Rehabilitation Loan Program (single-family, owner occupied rehabilitation). I was the Prevailing Wage officer for the Community Development Department of Anoka County and conducted all IDIS System reporting/financing. I was also an active participant in the Fair Housing activites of Anoka County as well as the Healthy Homes Initiative. I held two positions at Central MN Housing Partnership (CMHP). For my first three years at CMHP, I was the Program Coordinator with a 100% FTE that went to administering the Home Stretch Program, which is a first-time homebuyer educational class as well as one-to-one Pre-Purchase Counseling service to first-time homebuyers. After three years of being employed by CMHP, I was promoted to Program Manager and assumed the responsiblities of administering the Central MN Continuum of Care, which is a federally funded program.
