Lead the library preparation and sequencing protocols for a COVID-sequencing project in partnership with the UCSC Genomics Institute and the California Department of Public Health. I sequence around 384 samples weekly using the Illumina Covid-Sequencing pipeline, then analyze them using the lineage-calling program "DRAGEN". In addition to managing the COVID sequencing pipeline in the Shapiro Lab, I also conduct research involving wet lab functions (including DNA extraction, library preparation, and sequencing) as part of the Ancient and Degraded DNA Processing (ADDNAP) center at the UCSC Paleogenomics Lab. Applying molecular techniques and genome sequencing to answer ecological questions. My project is focused on utilizing ancient DNA found in sediment cores from Lake Solitude, WY to better understand how plant and diatom communities changed both during and after Younger Dryas, an extreme cooling event that returned the Northern Hemisphere to ice age conditions. Under the mentorship of Sarah Crump, PhD. and the UCSC Paleogenomics Lab. Applying molecular techniques and genome sequencing to answer ecological questions. Helped in the upkeep of fish tanks by siphoning the sand and gravel, prepared food for the fishes, ran public tours in which I’d teach people about the marine life in our local area and provide hands-on learning experience for children who were interested in marine ecosystems.
