RH Marine is a company that specializes in innovations in the marine world. RH Marine has developed the MPPT (multi purpose platform trainer), a simulator capable of simulating all internal systems of marine vessels (engines, electricity grid, cooling systems, etc.). The entire product consists of four parts: - Platform simulation models, to simulate the behavior of the ship - Emulated PLCs and associated user interfaces to influence the simulation, exactly as it would from a control room aboard a ship. - An instructor interface, from where an instructor can coordinate the training. - A communication layer, to allow the different parts of the product to communicate with each other. I worked within the simulation team during this project. I Started during the proof of concept phase and have worked on the project until weeks before the final validation by the customer. My main activities within the project were: - Researching available simulation frameworks to simulate the platform - Developing and implementing a generic library, able to simulate any liquid pipe system within a ship (Matlab / Simulink) - Developing and implement a program to dynamically simulate electrical networks based on a netlist generated from a database (Matlab / C ++) - Set up a test framework to be able to test unit and integration of all libraries and models (Matlab) - Development and maintenance of tooling to automatically link simulation models through the communication layer (Matlab / Simulink Coder / C ++) - Helping to develop various simulation structures for other parts of the ship. - Making various simulation models, using the aforementioned tooling. At the TU delft I graduated within the Visible Light Communication (VLC) group, a subgroup of the Embedded software group. This group focuses on the development of new technologies using visible light. I have been working on "Dark Sensing", a technique to detect people with reflections of light, using only a minimal amount of light and a photo diode. The project can be roughly divided into four parts. 1. Making a simulation to be able to calculate the amount of reflected light (Matlab) 2. Making a hardware prototype 3. Developing a binary classification algorithm (Matlab) 4. Writing the software for real (C) and post-time processing (Matlab) of the sensor dataThe Dark Sensing prototype was ultimately able to detect 91% of people passing by, while only 4% of the original amount of light was used. The Embedded software course is a course where bachelor students have to program a line following robot. As a teaching assistant, I was responsible for the following: - Assisting the students with their lab work - Grading the lab work of the students - Assisting the professor with improving the course

At Alstom Transport, I worked on the software for the Modular Drive Controller (MDC). The software of the MDC controls the traction system of various trains and subway trains. It’s a very old and long-term project. It was my job to update the MDC software for a new project: The Alstom H3 Hybrid Locomotive. During my year of working for Alstom I was responsible for porting the MDC software to a new RTOS (eCosCentric). In addition I implemented the CAN open protocol stack for the MDC and wrote the required tests and documentation for the project. Show less

Verkerk service systems is a company which focuses on home automation solutions. One of the products they develop is a communication system for care homes. When I started working at Verkerk, a new communication product had just been developed. However, this product caused a backwards compatibility problem. If a connection was established between an old and a new device, a very loud echo was created. It was my job to find the source of the echo and resolve the issue. During my graduation project at Verkerk, I managed to find the source of the echo, and devised several solutions for the problem. Eventually I resolved the problem with a software patch, which required no adjustments to the hardware. Show less
