Experience

    • University of Oxford Geography Ambassador
      • Nov 2022 - Present

I promote Geography degrees and the University of Oxford to secondary school and college students from disadvantaged backgrounds by visiting schools and giving talks. Another part of the role involves helping run the Geography Club, a course for state school students giving them a taste of the Oxford Geography degree. I plan sessions, prepare learning material and give lectures and discussions. Through this role I've learnt how to effectively collaborate, lead, take initiative and be resilient in the face of difficulty and tight deadlines. Show less

Working for the Sustainability Team in the Estates Services within the University of Oxford. Worked independently on making an environmental sustainability events guide for the wider university. This included doing the initial research, writing, formatting and designing. I really enjoyed being given so much autonomy in terms of where I worked and what I worked on, but also being able to update on my progress and ask for help in regularly scheduled Teams meetings. I had the opportunity to think about small-scale, practical and feasible actions that could be taken to make an event more environmentally sustainable, something that I had never considered before. I also discovered a lot about the style of communicaiton the university uses to ensure accessibility and clear articulation. Formatting Show less

Worked on a project aiming to help catering companies calculate the environmental sustainability of their food purchases using RStudio. I was able to use my personal food purchasing data to run tests through the calculator, learning how to use various R functions such as regular expressions in the process. Having finishes that task much earlier than expected, I was then able to manipulate my data to run further tests and experimented with ways to represent the outputs. At the end I was able to give feedback on that process, the results and the way those results were presented in a PowerPoint presentation to the wider International Conservation lab group. Show less
