Guy is a visionary, strategic, and collaborative leader. He created a new vision for the Town of High River’s recreation and parks division. The new direction focused on improving customer service, facility and parks operations, and relationships with staff and the community. I appreciated how he inspired the team with his enthusiasm and motivated them to support the new direction. Guy also has a wonderful ability to create a positive work environment that encourages people to share their ideas and celebrate their successes.

I worked closely with Guy for 18 months while President of the Hounsfield Heights - Briar Hill Community Association. The Community Association has been very pleased with Guy’s performance as Executive Director. His knowledge and expertise has allowed board members to use their valuable volunteer hours to focus on top priorities while he provides background support and continuity between members’ terms of office. Board members depend on him in a great variety of ways. Guy’s roles are quite diversified and he has risen to each challenge with expertise and enthusiasm. Some of these roles include the following: Community hall facility management. Physical building management as well as management of employees. This has included supervision and management of a roof repair, cleaning and maintenance of the gym, instalment of sound baffles in the gym and a variety of smaller repairs. Also, hiring and management of part time employees who supervise gym and facility rental groups and cleaning. Several of these projects had been on hold until Guy’s employment as board members had neither the time nor the expertise to tackle them. Support for board members. Guy has been invaluable in helping the treasurer by assisting with the annual audit, daily banking routines, and drawing up the annual budgets. He was instrumental in organizing a community survey in 2017 and guided board members through the development of a business plan. Guy has been excellent in researching grant opportunities and liaising with various City of Calgary resource groups and departments. Guy also gave great support to the board member responsible for our facility enhancement project by assisting with the business plan, architect search and bidding process. Communication. Currently, the communications director position on the board is vacant. Guy has helped to fill that role by maintaining the association’s website, writing and sending out emails to residents, newsletter submissions and posting notices at various venues. He has become the hub for the board and keeps everyone informed on any issues that arise which require attention. As well, Guy reports to the board at its monthly meetings to give updates on the facility and on all correspondence from outside sources. He also provides support for the association’s annual general meetings. Registration supervision. Guy plays a big part in the registration process for sports groups, community play school and community association memberships. His knowledge regarding the server that is used, Activenet, has been a great help as this system has been at times complicated and cumbersome. Guy has many strengths and attributes that he brings with him to the office every day. He is a team player with excellent people skills. Guy works well with everyone on the board to get projects completed. He interacts positively with seniors who use the gym for daily drop in badminton and pickle ball programs. He steps up to extra requests for support
