Romans-sur-Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France IPM was an Italian payphone group. After buying Landis & Gyr, its directors let us manage this French subsidiary with a high degree of autonomy. In parallel, the big operators concentrated their resources on more promising technologies at the time: ADSL, 3G, fibre optics, which caused the market to collapse. My future associates and I decided to join forces to develop interactive kiosks. We dared to take a chance and, in 2005, we launched ourselves on this new market and had no hesitation in taking on the major groups. Our first tender from RATP, where we were up against Jean-Claude Decaux, was successful; and this was followed by SNCF, Orange, etc. In 2008, Italy agreed to sell us the company, and the three of us then took control. My main mission in this phase was to completely reorganise our company, to make it efficient and effective on a market very different from that of payphones, to acquire new skills, and then to forge partnerships with suppliers to allow us to offer a complete solution to our clients.

Over a two-year period, we won a number of large contracts with France Telecom and developed smartcard payphones, sold worldwide. In the space of just a few years, this company’s turnover rose from 30 million francs to more than 200 million francs. I was involved in integrating this R&D centre in the Group by putting in place an efficient organisation and precise processes. I was in charge of the development of France Telecom’s latest generation of payphones (RNIS) and a range of products distributed internationally. Show less
