Context: In pharmacovigilance, causality assessment (or imputability in France) consists of estimating the probability of a relationship between the intake of a drug and the occurrence of an adverse reaction. France has developed an algorithmic imputability method which all french pharmacovigilance centres must use for ADR reporting. Therefore, a ML system is desirable to automatically read all adverse drug event declarations to assess the imputability score. This would enable health professionals to save time and invest it in analysing urgent impubility cases and avoid exposing patientto future drug hazards. Data science task: text classification Role: Propose a ML approach for Imputalibity assessment automatization in centre regional de pharmacovigilance at Nice to liberate health professionals from time-consuming tasks and improve patient's diagnostics and treatment methods. Results: - Frame Imputalibity assessment automatization as a NLP text classification task. - Visualize text data to spot insigth regarding relevacy, informativeness and bias in adverse drug event declarations. - Investigate new text data preprocessing methods to improve text classification. Context: Electronic health records contains valuable, unexplored information regarding adverse drug reaction (ADRs). These are heavily under-reported even though the World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended acknowledging them. Therefore, creating a Machine Learning (ML) system able to detect ADRs can help improve clinical documentation, drug efficiency analysis, as well as related patient diagnosis and treatment. Data science task: NER (named entity recognition) Role: Propose a ML approach for adverse drug reaction discovery to improve adverse drug surveillence and reduce morbidity and mortality in healthcare. Results: - Frame adverse drug reaction discovery as a NER (named entity recognition) task. - Identify automatically drug-symptom and drug-adverse-effect entity pairs in electronic health records. - - Find new text feature extraction methods to improve NER performance.
