Guillermo (aka Guimo) is a friendly, hard-working and passionate engineer who managed the DevOps team while we worked together at CMCRC. Guimo and his team could always be counted on to get things done and keep our cloud infrastructure running smoothly. As a team leader, he is a confident decision-maker, a strong communicator and has excellent people skills. He always looks at the big picture and has an ability to take a step back to identify what is and isn’t the most valuable work that needs to get done. I enjoyed working with Guimo and hope to work with him again.

Rozetta Institute (previously CMCRC, http://www.cmcrc.com) is a lead research organisation. Its objectives is the development of cutting edge research tools for data analytics applied to financial markets, health, energy markets and digital currencies. After helping Lorica Health, I returned to CMCRC in July 2014 as an architect to design the new cluster for analytics jobs big data processing. Later I assumed the role of DevOps manager with the objective of moving all the systems to work in AWS and get the infrastructure budget under control. Key technologies Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, Swarm, Mesos, ECS, EKS, Kubernetes, Cloudformation, Infrastructure as Code, AWS (RDS, ECS, EC2, VPC, IAM, Route53, etc), Atlassian Stack(Jira, Bamboo, Bitbucket), Agile Scrum/Kanban, Prometheus monitoring. Highlights - Designed a cluster platform powering the MQDashboard analytics. The cluster is highly scalable reaching a maximum size (due to budget constraints) of 6000 CPUs and 24TB RAM processing 12 million jobs per month. - Migrated all the in-house hosted servers to AWS with full Infrastructure as Code approach. - Migrated all services to use clusters, containers and microservices for redundancy, self healing and high availability. - Transformed all infrastructure into code using Cloudformation. Standardised and transformed all CI/CD pipeline into code using a DSL based on Groovy. - Responsible of security using IAM roles. - Responsible of all the VPC and networking architecture. - Built pipeline based on Jira, Bitbucket and Bamboo. - Use of Agile methodologies for the length of the project. - Responsible for maintaining the budget for the AWS infrastructure. Multiple cost optimisations were applied including the use of spot instances, spot fleets, instance reservation and glacier storage. - Technical engagement of HMS, a US based health insurance (http://www.hms.com). Designed a research environment that complies with the high security requirements of the health data. Show less
