Erypharm is a french biotech company that develops and fosters cultured red blood cells as a complement to donation for blood transfusion. In general, my role here has been to build a research team with the will to bring together experts from complementary fields, and manage its activity to design a scalable production process that pushes the limits of state-of-the-art cell culture technologies. We have succeeded in developing a process inspired by perfusion allowing to reach more than 100M cells/mL in routine with the specificity to save proteins (albumin, growth factors...) and thus to reduce drastically (25-fold) production costs, at 2L scale.Apart from this technological breakthrough, we developed an end-to-end process starting from frozen HSCs comprising 7 unit production steps. My role in details :Planning and budgeting of R&D activitiesDesign and installation of a 150 m² laboratory with 1.5 M€ of cell culture equipments (USP and DSP) -> 0,1 to 2L bioreactors-> Cell and metabolite analyzers-> Pump systems-> Filtration skid-> Large-scale elutriator-> Basic cell culture equipmentRecruitment, organization and emulation of a multidisciplinary team of 12 people : Biologists, pharmacists, process engineers, data scientists and technicians. BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN COMPLEMENTARY SCIENCES.Implementation of a quality system:-> More than 100 operating procedures and records-> Systematized continual improvementWriting and management of intellectual property, INVENTOR OF 4 PATENTSCMC : Partial drafting of IMPD with specialized service providerPitch for investors : VCs and corporate ventures.Presentation in international conferences.Design of a 1000m² GMP facility.Structuring and management of several scientific collaborations.Comparative technical study of cell culture applications: recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, viral vectors manufacturing, regenerative medicine, cellular immunotherapy, cultured meat...
