I am working in the lab of Zachary Mainen, investigating the role of serotonin in cognitive flexibility by performing high-yield Neuropixel recordings combined with optogenetics during decision making. We experience the world around us using all our senses. By combining visual, auditory and tactile information that is coming into our brains we construct a representation of our surrounding environment. I researched the neural underpinning of this concept using chronic two-photon calcium imaging. We experience the world around us using all our senses. I recorded the activity of a specific subset of neurons in arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. These neurons, known as AgRP neurons, are implicated in the regulation of food intake and food seeking behavior. Researching them could be key in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying obesity. I recorded the activity of a specific subset of neurons in arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus.
