    • Engine Boss - Wild Land Firefighter
      • Jan 2000 - Dec 2002

The major parameters of this position required me being assigned on a type 1, 2 & 3 fire engine, but I was also part of a hot shot hand crew. My responsibilities were managing the engine and crew, staying physically fit and ready to go. I had the opportunity to fight fire on grass, brush and forest fires (about 30 fires total) throughout the course of this job I was on fires assignments in mainly the NW. when not on the road patrolling or fighting fire, we were performing odd jobs. I also directed the public when needed. I have driven and operated government vehicles and four wheeler and have maintained and trained in the safe use of fire fighting equipment including but not limited to chainsaws, portable pumps, and a variety of hand tools. In this job I acquired more self confidence and independence. This job taught me how to be heads up in very stressful and dangerous situations. I did three seasons as a fire fighter; I enjoyed the experience and developed a greater appreciation for service members and fire ecology. Show less
