Special inspection is the monitoring of certain critical structural materials requiring the attention of professionals with highly specialized skills and qualifications. Construction Services also includes Construction Material Testing where materials such as concrete, grout, mortar, fireproofing, and soils are all tested in accordance with the… Show more Special inspection is the monitoring of certain critical structural materials requiring the attention of professionals with highly specialized skills and qualifications. Examples of special inspection include steel construction, concrete construction, masonry construction, special foundations, and fireproofing. Construction Services also includes Construction Material Testing where materials such as concrete, grout, mortar, fireproofing, and soils are all tested in accordance with the project specifications. We are hired by the owner on a Quality Assurance basis to ensure that the owner is getting the building that they are paying for. We check all aspects that deal with the overall structural integrity of the project. Spent 5.5 years in the field conducting inspections including concrete steel reinforcement and concrete placements, special foundations installation (auger cast piles, driven piles, helical piers, aggregate piers), masonry steel reinforcement and grout placements, structural steel welding (full penetrations welds, visual per AWS D1.1), structural steel erection and bolting, spray applied and intumescent fireproofing, building envelope (sheathing, waterproofing, windows, etc), temporary shoring systems, and some soils inspections (proofrolls, foundation bearing checks, etc). As a project manager, my day-to-day activities included scheduling the inspectors per the incoming inspection requests, communicating with the Architects, Owners, and Engineers about issues found onsite, resolving issues in a timely manner, drawing and specification clarification, budget control, preparing reports, sending out notices for issues found on site, and ensure that we cover our entire scope for the project and that the owner is satisfied with our work.
