I managed the checkout department, ensuring that the checkouts are clean and tidy. I also monitor queue lengths and open/close checkouts as appropriate to ensure customer satisfaction. This increases staff efficiency and allows them to help around the shop during periods where they are not required on the till. Queue monitoring is very important, and it is my responsibility to ensure that the store passes the queuing criteria. If the store fails to meet these criteria, the stores position within the company can be affected. It is also my responsibility to ensure all tills are counted correctly and that all cash is accounted for. I have to investigate when tills are over or under in order to keep accurate store accounts and prevent loss. I have worked in and have experience in other departments such as: Grocery, FFPP, Produce, Flower Shop, Customer Services, Petrol Filling Station, Beers, Wines and Spirits, Trolley Services and Night-shift. I attended a work experience week at COPFS in which I was given the opportunity to learn all about COPFS and how the organisation works. I spent the week meeting various solicitors from departments ranging from Serious Crime to Animal and Wildlife Protection. This gave me insights as to the work that takes place within the organisation and gave me a direct source of information as I was able to ask questions as to how things are done and query many finer points. This experience complimented my experience at MJS as it allowed me to see how the other side of the criminal justice system operates. The experience also highlighted the differences between the two in terms of resources and overall different experience between being a prosecutor and a defence agent. Show less

I spent a week shadowing at a local criminal law firm during which I was given the chance to observe the work that criminal lawyers do. I was also given the opportunity to watch how the firm evaluate cases as well as read cases and visit court. During this week I watched a Defence Agent act on behalf of MJS in a solemn procedure trial. I paid particular focus to the agents closing statements and made sure I could take in and learn as much as I could for any future litigation. This week allowed me to observe the finer points of legal aid and how firms work with the COPFS in regard to receiving disclosure. Show less
