The role of a Panel Member within the Children's Hearing System involves making legal decisions with and for infants, children and young people whilst dealing with complex issues and communicating these with empathy and compassion when working with children, young people and families. The role actively demonstrates leadership, analytical thinking and communication and influencing skills. I undertook a ten-week training programme between January and March 2023: Professional Development Award for 'Children's Hearings in Scotland: Panel Members', which involved learning about the principles and practices within the children's hearings system, including law and procedure; chairing hearings; decision-making and protecting rights - all to incorporate within Hearings.
