At Sequoyah Technologies I have worked on the development of cloud systems for remote data gathering under contract with commercial partners as well as our EdgeStack technologies. I’ve worked on additional contract work with other commercial entities around embedded systems for data gathering. These systems use the IEC languages and I was involved in porting a multi-instance implementation of these languages to their embedded environment. Cyte Technologies Inc. was a systems integration and distributed systems company. We built data gathering systems for the petroleum products industry and others with geographically distributed systems. The development was in Java based technologies including the use of the Jini platform. We designed systems with data gathering protocols such as MODBUS as well as related applications such as embedded systems control related to PLC technologies. We worked with the initial design of MQTT using the Java platform.

At C2 Technologies I designed and developed field data brokering software for Oil and Natural Gas pipelines. I also designed and developed remote systems management and status monitoring software systems. These systems were done before JMS and JMX existed on the Java platform. These systems remained deployed and were upgraded into the late 2000’s with the split of C2 software engineering into Cyte Technologies. At Lucent Technologies, I designed/engineered and wrote a domain specific language for automating and controlling the 5ESS switching systems software retrofit procedures. This reduced the execution time of the process from 12-16hrs down to about 6 hours by making sure that everything was done in order and keeping the craft from standing around waiting for things and then missing something which needed to be done manually from the 1" thick procedure manual.I also participated in many expert and process groups related to the entire 5ESS and related areas around the Indian Hill campus area.I was privileged enough to get to work with lots of really bright and talented people. This included some software design process work with the Indian Hill Court Bell Labs research group such as Jim Coplien, as well as many others including the Blit/630/730 terminal group who helped me with documentation on those devices so that I could write some fairly significant changes to the windowing system so that we could do more with those terminals without having to upgrade memory in them.It was a great time for me, but alas time moved on and other opportunities presented themselves.
