  I worked as a volunteer team leader on a four-month overseas development project in Nicaragua with Raleigh International, a sustainable development charity that works with local communities within the host country, to deliver social change and improve the livelihoods of their citizens.I led a team of 13 volunteers, operating alongside our project partner, INPRHU, to provide sustainable long-term development to the region. Our work was centred around youth empowerment and female participation to enhance the overall economic prospects of young people and their families. We have worked directly with 20 youth entrepreneurs in developing their business plans and presentation skills, in advance of their successful seed capital defence pitch.We also engaged the wider community through focus groups, activity workshops, fairs, campaigns and house visits to raise awareness of key global issues, such as reforestation, natural resource management and recycling.
