Online Editor & Senior Writer
-
Oct 2010 - Dec 2011
Was the online editor and senior writer for Jake White’s rugby site www.rugbyxv.co.za. Also wrote the schools rugby column for SA Sports Illustrated magazine as well as being a columnist for www. rugby365.com. At the same time, I was in charge of organising Jake and Eddie Jones’s Coaching the Coaches courses in Johannesburg (Jeppe), Durban (Kearsney) and Cape Town (Paul Roos), which catered for 200 coaches. I completed level one and two of this course in 2010, while in 2011 I was also able to develop my rugby and life knowledge further by being heavily involved with Jake and Eddie (two ex-teachers) throughout the courses. In conjunction with Jake, I wrote South Africa’s first-ever step-by-step rugby coaching manual for high schools - an 80 page A4 folder covering all aspects of the game, including drills and age-appropriate practice schedules. During this time, I was approached by E-TV news and was interviewed on live TV for my thoughts on the Stormers’ semi-final against the Crusaders and for the Springboks’ opening game of the World Cup against Wales. Staff Writer
-
Mar 2008 - Sep 2010
Worked as staff writer for Highbury Safika Media on publications such as SA Rugby magazine, SA Cricket magazine, and the rugby blog www.keo.co.za. Other titles I wrote for included Foschini Sports Club magazine and Sascoc’s Road to London 2012 magazine. During this time in the media industry I dealt with a number of different media liaisons across a variety of sports and bodies. I attended countless press conferences for various professional rugby teams, while I was also privileged enough to tour with the Springboks during the home leg of their 2009 Tri-Nations campaign. I also covered the British & Irish Lions tour in that same year, travelling to many venues including Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, while I attended the historic Super 14 final at the Orlando Stadium in 2010. My involvement in covering South African rugby during this period wasn’t restricted to the fifteen-man teams, but also the Springbok Sevens side. Show less
