Started this business in 1994 (as Paperformance) specialising in paper and envelopes to printers and schools. 1 year later bought and merged in a small office stationery business based in Norwich called Penwins Ltd. Whilst the business was small we had some excellent accounts e.g. a contract for miscellaneous stationery supplies with Norfolk County Council and sole stationery and furniture supplier to Norwich airport. In 1996 a local company Kenmare Print was merged in and the 3 employees taken on. We were in new fully refurbished premises in Lowestoft town centre. There was a massive sales drive focusing on the schools market and business grew 300% in one year.Extra warehouse premises were purchased in 1997 and the business continued to grow rapidly. in 1999 much larger premises were purchased in Waveney Drive (Ex BT offices and stores) and refurbished to a high standard, including a showroom space. A new office furniture division was started, ultimately becoming an important, highly successful part of the business. This was my first experience in the office furniture market and I haven't been out of it since.A trade stationery section of the business was started in 2003 (selling exclusively to re-sellers, mainly in the Educational market). This was run as a separate division called Eastpoint and became a separate business in separate premises (Lowestoft's former tram station) on 1 January 2008. This business continues very successfully today run by my brothers, but I am no longer financially involved in it.In 2009 a separate section of Compass was started to sell trade Office Furniture (i.e. exclusively to re-sellers) under the name Arrow Group. Arrow grew steadily and in 2011 I took the decision that this was where my interests and future lay and the decision was taken to market Compass for sale as a going concern. A sale was successfully agreed with Everything Office Ltd, another Lowestoft based company, completing on 1 March 2012, leaving just Arrow.

Along with my brothers, started this business as a division of Compass Educational Supplies, to make trade sales of educational products i.e. to re-sellers who sold to the schools market. The main customers are the large schools catalogues e.g. YPO, ESPO, the Consortium, GLS, Findell etc.

My father's business, started in 1976 as Sunbury Office Supplies in Sunbury-on-Thames. On moving the business to School Road, Hampton in 1985 (into the old school) it was re-named Sterling Office Supplies. My Father sold the business to Kevin Stanley and David Stanley in 1997 and it was sold on again to Office Gold around 2007.

My first job when leaving school. I was Broadway's first employee although the business then was called Burgoyne Builders. I did a YTS apprenticeship as a bricklayer, gaining City and Guilds qualifications. I passed with distinction, but unlike my bosses Andy and Stephen Fry I missed out on the silver trowel awarded each year to the student with the best marks in the country. I progressed to site agent by age 21 running sites of up to 60 persons. This background and a continued interest ever since in charity church building projects gives me a good understanding of the design and build world and an ability to read plans.
