My research focus was acute myeloid leukaemia with a mutated NPM1 gene. One of my key project aims was to develop a novel therapeutic to prevent the leukemogenic effect of mutant NPM1. To achieve this I developed a novel, targeted gene therapy designed to halt disease progression. The strategy was based on delivering therapeutic mRNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles. A successful application to the Nottinghamshire Leukaemia Appeal provided funding for proof of principal studies which demonstrated the effectiveness of the therapeutic in model systems.

At Oncimmune, I was responsible for leading a team in the large-scale production of recombinant proteins commonly over expressed in individuals with various types of cancer. These proteins were used to detect auto antibodies produced in the early stages of cancer development providing a method for early diagnosis.
