Head of Humanities

Responsible for leading the Humanities faculty in the secondary school. Overseeing Geography, History, Religious Studies, Business Studies, Economics, Sociology, and Psychology. The summer before I started (Summer 2012) the results for Geography and History were 26% and 35% A*-C respectively. These increased in 2013 and by 2014 all subjects exceeded 70% A*-C. In 2016, my last set of results Geography obtained 80%, Religious Studies 96%, and all other subjects 75% or higher. I was also responsible for Group 3 subjects in the International Baccalaureate; and across Group 3 there were 10, IB 7s in a cohort of less than 40. As part of my leadership and management role I was responsible for monitoring and raising the quality of teaching and learning. In addition, as part of my role leading the faculty I was responsible for overseeing department budgets, assisting with recruitment, and staff performance management. As a class teacher, I personally taught Geography in KS3, KS4 and Post-16. I also taught A Level Government and Politics. My classes consistently met or exceeded expected progress based on FFT at the 25th percentile. Show less

Lifeguard Trainer / Assessor

In this role I organise and run training courses that lead to candidates obtaining their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. This involves teaching lifeguarding theory, first aid, CPR and water rescue skills. I am also required to maintain accurate records and detailed reports on candidate performance. An external assessor then assesses the competency of the candidates I train, and I have a 100% pass rate. I also assess the competency of other candidates at other training centres. Responsible for the Geography Curriculum in the school. Planning and teaching lessons for pupils aged 11 - 18 and assessing progress. Reporting on progress to parents and senior management. Maintaining and monitoring standards across a subject team of five specialist teachers. Working with and mentoring a trainee teacher. In this role I am also responsible for resourcing the curriculum. This requires me to produce resources for pupils aged 11-18, this includes producing resources in house and selecting and purchasing resources from external providers. These resources are used by myself and other teachers in the department. Additionally I coordinate the departmental visits programme. This requires me to plan a number of day visits as well as two residential visits a year. As well as designing the programme for the visit, including costings, this role requires me to carry out risk assessments and produce resources for the visit. Show less

Program Director / Assistant Camp Director

Responsible for leading a team of 25 staff to run a summer camp for boys aged 11 - 18. Duties included supervising staff, ensuring a safe environment, and a quality program for all the campers. In this role I was required to train the volunteers and paid employees to ensure they delivered a safe programme that met the BSA National Standards. Previous to this I spent a number of summers working at the camp in different capacities ranging from aquatic instructor to waterfront director. This role includes supervising the camp wide aquatic programme which includes instruction in swimming. Show less
