The Tires Remand Centre project was created for children ages 1 to 4 years old who lived in prison with their mothers at the ‘Tires’ women’s correctional facility. The objective of the project; The organization and planning of weekly activities for the children outside of a prison environment. These activities included beneficial skills such as being in a positive, trusting atmosphere having the possibility to learn basic English, creating fun educational games, and taking the children out into the real world. The essential objective of this project was to prepare them for foster homes. By the age of 4, it is required by Portuguese law that the child be handed over to a legal guardian or is automatically placed into the foster system. Show less
