I moved to Lilian Baylis in September 2016. I taught a range of abilities within KS3 and KS4 adopting the 'Concrete, Pictoral and Abstract' approach to plan and deliver lessons with the aim of students mastering mathematical concepts. The maths department valued the use of educational research to inform teaching practices and I enjoyed learning more about the pedagogical ideas that promotes progress for our students.

Sep 2014 - Jul 2016
Classroom teacher with experience of teaching both KS3 and KS4 classes of different abilities. I was responsible for developing a series of KS3 unit tests to allow teachers to accurately assess student ability in each mathematical strand after the removal of levels. In lessons I enjoyed using a variety of resources in order to best prepare my GCSE classes for their exams, using worksheets to gain fluency, discovery tasks to introduce subjects and group activities to encourage the use of reasoning and problem solving skills. During my time at Lanfranc I was given the opportunity to orientate a week placement for six incoming Teach First Mathematics participants which included planning CPD sessions, mentoring and collaboratively planning lessons and carry out lesson observations to provide constructive feedback. Furthermore I worked closely with our PGCE coordinator, allowing a range of PGCE students to share my classes - again giving me the experience of conducting formal lesson observations. In my second year I taught an additional GCSE option in Psychology, in which enabled students to explore a new subject that many consider for A-Level studies. This required a lot of research and planning from me as there was no resources already available. This experience allowed me to explore different teaching strategies needed when teaching a written subject. Show less
