I was a teaching assistant for two courses, Analytical Chemistry I Laboratory and Analytical Chemistry II Laboratory. Analytical Chemistry I covers quantitative analysis and electrochemistry, so I assisted students in experiments demonstrating gravimetric analysis, neutralization titrations, and several electrochemical analyses including cyclic voltammetry, hydrodynamic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, and potentiometry with fluoride ion selective electrodes. Analytical Chemistry II covers instrumental analysis, so the experiments surrounded the theory and use of techniques such as UV-Vis, fluorimetry, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, AAS, ICP-OES, GC-MS, and HPLC. For each of the experiments, I had to be proficient with the technique so that I could answer questions and troubleshoot any issues. In addition to assisting students, I was also responsible for preparing the laboratory space by collecting the necessary materials, maintaining any instrumentation and equipment, and labeling chemical waste for safe disposal. Outside of the class period, I independently worked on improving the method for the GC-MS experiment, which gave me further hands-on experience with GC-MS instrument use and maintenance. Show less

    • Undergraduate Researcher
      • Jun 2021 - Apr 2022

My second undergraduate research experience was under Dr. Benjamin Bythell studying the fragmentation of carbohydrate isomers using tandem mass spectrometry. In this role, I prepared samples and collected both MS and MS/MS data using an ESI-Orbitrap mass spectrometer. After collecting the data, I used Microsoft Excel for statistical data analysis and to create concise diagrams. By working both independently and collaboratively with members of my research group, I practiced strong organizational and time management skills. Show less

    • Peer-Led Team Learning Mentor
      • Aug 2019 - Dec 2021

Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) is a course offered at Ohio University for students enrolled in general chemistry who want additional instruction and practice in solving chemistry problems. As a PLTL mentor, I helped guide students through complex, exam-style chemistry questions and used effective communication to tailor additional instruction for students who needed further explanation on certain topics. Since I worked primarily with first-year students, I also provided advice on effective study techniques and test-taking strategies. Show less

    • Undergraduate Researcher
      • Jun 2020 - Apr 2021

My first experience as an undergraduate researcher was under Dr. Anthony Stender studying the leaching of silver nanoparticles from silver-treated textiles during the laundering process. I assisted in the development and execution of an experiment for the analysis of silver nanoparticles using ICP-OES in order to quantify the amount of silver extracted from textiles exposed to various types of agitation. Additionally, I independently worked on a project compiling sources describing the applications of different elemental nanoparticles to forensics and a variety of other fields. Since our research group was in the process of moving to a different building, I also conducted an inventory of all of the chemicals and equipment in our lab and helped to safely move them to the new facility. • Dec 2016 - Jun 2018

As a host, my primary responsibilities were seating guests, taking reservations, and clearing tables. In this role, I practiced customer service skills in a fast-paced environment while using logic and organizational skills to maximize efficiency and guest satisfaction. I also trained several new hosts and servers in using the table management software and other company procedures.
