  Gp Capt Vijayakumar had held very important assignments in Indian Air Force which included as Director of Financial Planning responsible for Planning and Budgeting of Capital Acquisition of Indian Air Force amounting to Rs.15,000 crores per annum. He also took part in IPKF and Kargil operations. Prior to retirement he was the Financial Advisor to the Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Western Air Command which is responsible for operations in the entire northern sector including J & K and Siachen Glacier.Gp Capt Vijayakumar was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India for distinguished service of very high order. He was also awarded Commendation Medallion by the Chief of Air Staff and Air Officer Commanding in Chief on four occasions in recognition of service of high order.
