I was a Project Advisor for Governess for in the summer of 2020, when she was a participant in Google's Software Product Sprint. SPS is a 11 week program organized by Google, where students collaborate virtually with a team of peers to develop a web app that is personally meaningful to them. The team is guided by a Google engineer as they create design documents, conducts code reviews and navigates complex technical challenges. Goveness was part of the team that I advised for the program. Governess was a very motivated and active participant throughout the program. She worked through challenges, asked for help when needed and completed all the requirements for the program. She came up with several ideas for the final project, helped finalize a design and worked with the team to complete a working web page. Governess's enthusiasm, active participation in discussions, proactive communication and overall positive attitude made it a pleasure working with her.

During the Fall 2019 semester, I had the pleasure of working directly with Governess Simpson, who served as a teaching assistant for a first-year seminar course at the University of Minnesota. In this role, Governess was responsible for co-leading a class of 40 first-year science and engineering students, who looked to her as a mentor and helpful guide during their first semester of college. Governess was also responsible for grading and meeting each student individually during the course of the semester. Governess' lived experience as a student in the College of Science and Engineering set a professional tone for the class as she was quick to lend encouragement to students who sought her advice on career and major exploration. Supervising Governess was a very rewarding experience. Her growth and maturation over the course of the semester were a sight to behold. Her organization and dependability are second to none. She will be an asset to any company or organizaton, without question.
