I made a mistake at work once and nearly ruined a confidential search we had been working on for a large client. I was extremely concerned and worried about what Gord would say when I told him. Once I had worked up the courage to explain the situation, Gord put me at ease immediately. To say that Gord’s style of leadership is disarming is an understatement. I have never had a manager with such a high level of trust and respect for his employees. Gord understands the strengths of each individual, and is remarkably capable of translating those strengths into accomplishments for the group. Under Gord’s quiet leadership, each person is allowed to work in the way that is most comfortable to them, allowing for a team composed of unique but equally motivated employees. I think somehow Gord knew that I hadn’t compromised the search for this client, but his compassion and understanding lend the benefit of the doubt to everyone he meets. Gord is a truly exceptional leader, and an unaffectedly kind person.

True leadership is the phrase that comes to mind when I think about Gordon Bretsen. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Gord for over 5 years, during which I reported to him directly as my Regional Director. Above all, I was impressed with Gord’s ability to connect with each member of his team on a truly unique level. Few times during my career have I been able to place this level of trust in a manager. With Gord, you really felt that his people came first, so you always knew that you were good hands. During an regional visit once, Gord even substituted on my Softball team for a double header (and even hit a home run). Gord would truly be an asset for any position requiring leadership, mentor-ship, and accountability.
