      • Jun 1986 - Jun 1986

Couldn't have asked for a more rewarding career serving in the world’s finest Air Force. Operationalized satellite launch and early orbit ops at Falcon AFB, Colorado conducting operations for the first 10 modern GPS satellites and first DSP and DMSP satellites launched under the Space Command flag. Performed missile warning operations in Woomera, Australia during tense Desert Storm era; commanded first and only DSP flight from the Shuttle and was project officer for first ever deployment of mobile DSP trucks to Australia. Ran Delta II facility and launch operations at Cape Canaveral; weathering hurricane Erin and serving as mission commander for the first GPS replenishment mission. In all, was mission commander for 3 launches and a member of countdown team for another 11 launches, all successful. Served as launch scheduling and policy chief at HQ Space Command and program element monitor for the Air Force’s $17B launch vehicle program. Transitioned to ICBMs during tumultuous merger of career fields and ran the gauntlet from deputy missile combat crew commander to deputy operations group commander including tours as 319MS operations officer and 321MS commander, both honored as the Air Force’s best ICBM squadrons under my leadership. Served as executive officer under one of the finest and most balanced Air Force officers I know in Lt Gen Fig Leaf during one of the most fun and rewarding years of my life. Finished up at the Pentagon, first leading the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff’s (CJCS) space and missile defense team as we prepared the President and SecDef for the first operational employment of our Nation’s missile defense system. Finally, served in the Assistant to the CJCS office under Gen Will Fraser and Gen Paul Selva, two more incredible Air Force leaders, as we traveled the globe with Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton during what had to be the most unique and insightful experience any military officer could hope for.
