My new book 'Finding HMAS Sydney: A Memoir' will be available in February 2016. Copies can be purchased for $30 from me or Hesperian Press. The book is a powerful and unique memoir which shines a light, not only on the true story of the search for HMAS Sydney and the German raider HSK Kormoran; but it also shines a light on a debilitating dementia called primary progressive aphasia and my husband’s battle with this dreadful disease. As a Director of the Finding Sydney Foundation (now closed), and their representative on board the survey vessel, I was present when the wrecks were located by sonar and later filmed by a remote operating vehicle, this is a first-hand account. FINDING HMAS SYDNEY: A MEMOIR is a story of passion, persistence and deep love, and brings the human side to this enthralling account of the men and women involved. In addition to the search for Sydney the book covers the search for the unknown sailor located on Christmas Island in 2006, the Commission of Inquiry by Justice Terrence Cole and finally, losing Victor, my husband of 42 years. In the final chapter ‘Loose ends’ I give a reasoned hypothesis for some of the outstanding issues surrounding the loss of Sydney. Show less
