Tendered, awarded and managed Australia's largest aquaculture Project located 15 km north of Proserpine for the largest domestic and international Seafood Farming Distributor. I began working with Mc Ilwains as a Civil Foreman and due to my studies and love of the industry quickly advanced to Supervisor of Major Projects and then Construction Manager until the GFC affected the company and was required to look else where and began my FIFO work. During the floods of 2010 I was then constructing Mc Ilwains flagship project, the Springfield Dams. Highly challenging as the floods began as the crest of the dam had just began and the horizontal sand chimney's had just been constructed. Essentially the dams were built twice. With the assistance of engineers from Connell Hatch many diversions techniques were tied and implemented. Clay core was required to be imported and laid at 3-4% over OMC. As the on-ground leader my learnings on dam construction under live creek conditions with the potential of loss of life and property downstream was vast and greatly assisted me in the many dams I went on to construct. I began working for Pensar as a leading hand on sub-division projects. After only 3 months I was promoted to Supervisor and given my own sub-division to construct which I did exceeding budget and program expectations. During the next 12 months I completed multiple sub-divisions often running two (2) simultaneously managing multiple crews and sub-contractors. After my promotion I was moved to the road infrastructure departments and completed many DTR road and bridge projects at Springfield including Sinnathamby Boulevard dual carriage Duplication, Southern Loop Road Duplication and Carrington Road located at the Gold Coast. • Pipelayer/ Foreman
      • Jan 1997 - Dec 2001

Directly after completing my University Engineering degrees I began working on the ground and not the office to get a better understanding of the constraints and issues of a job site. It was one of the best decisions I have made and the 12 years experience provided me with many positive skills and understandings that have helped me throughout my career, in particular once I entered the office and also upon reaching a Construction Managers role at Mc Ilwains. Being very inexperienced, for 12 months I worked as a pipelayer laying sewer, water and storm water including the construction of concrete insitu and pre-cast pits and manholes. After the initial 12 months I worked as a Supervisor but often gave the company a hand in creating safety, quality and cost tracking spread sheets. Not only did I learn the constraints and issues that a lot of design engineers do not understand or appreciate but more importantly I began to learn production rates for plant and the right plant was for the task. I quickly learnt how to communicate to the ground staff and the importance of the ground staff. I also learnt all the techniques and methods that contractors will use to their advantage to be able claim variations and extend day works. I learnt many aspects of a construction site that university cannot teach. Show less
