My time at North State Resources, Inc. can be divided into two main projects. The first project involved in stream habitat assessment on tributaries to Lake Shasta. Our goal to was determine if and where non-native fish invasions might occur if PG&E were to raise Lake Shasta. This project involved knowledge of native and non-native fishes, local plants, amphibians and macro-invertebrate taxa. The second position was a northern goshawk monitoring position east of Burney, CA on Sierra Pacific Industries land. I was required to work alone and follow preexisting transects playing bird calls to determine the presence or absence of these threatened birds. Show less

For the research foundation I held two different positions. The first was an in stream habitat assessment person. We traveled throughout California collecting SWAMP data on perennial streams. This required knowledge of riparian vegetation, fish species and macro-invertebrate taxa. The second position was solely a laboratory post where I identified the macro-invertebrates that were collected in the field to order level. This is important because by assessing the macro-invertebrate fauna of a stream, coupled with basic water chemistry, you can deduce the health of the stream. Show less
